Meet the Systems Faculty: Erika Palmer

The Future of Systems Engineering is Social!

As detailed in INCOSE Vision 2035, the next generation of systems engineers will need to support the soci-otechnical application of systems engineering. At Cornell Systems Engineering, I have developed courses that enable systems engineers to apply systems approaches to the social systems that weave through the lifecycle of systems engineering practice. This includes the modeling and simulation of sociotechnical systems in a variety of application domains – from emerging technology and policy to sustainability. Research in this area is supported by the Systems and Society Research Lab (SSRL), which fosters a transdisciplinary environment to support graduate students and faculty across departments and colleges at Cornell.
