Title: Bugs, Pugs and Drugs: The Emergence of Extensively Drug Resistant Bacteria in Pets and Their People

Speaker Bio: Dr. Stephen Cole, MS, VMD, is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Director of the Clinical Infectious Disease Laboratory at PennVet. He obtained his MS in microbiology from the College of William and Mary in 2011 and his VMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. He became boarded in bacteriology and immunology in 2018 and virology in 2020 by the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists. He is the recipient of the ASM Peggy Cotter Early Career Award, numerous teaching awards and was named a One Health Scholar by the AAVMC. Dr. Cole’s research focuses how to understand and mitigate the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria between companion animals and people.
