Baker Institute Seminar Series – Dr. Daniel Beiting

Dr. Daniel Beiting will be presentating ‘The microbiome as a sensor and modulator of inflammation during infection.’

Dan Beiting is an Associate Professor of Pathobiology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He completed his PhD in Immunology at Cornell’s Baker Institute for Animal Heath before moving to Penn for a postdoc in genomics and host-pathogen interactions in David Roos’ lab. In 2013 he joined the faculty at the PennVet. His lab has broad interests in the microbiome and metagenomics. He takes an interdisciplinary approach to identify mechanisms by which the microbiome influences the outcome of infection and inflammation at barrier surfaces, such as the gut, lung, and skin. In addition, Dan’s lab is actively involved in curriculum development for bioinformatics and has developed tools and resources that help the research community access, analyze, and visualize complex metagenomic datasets.
