Bio:
Charlle Sy is a visiting professor in the Systems Engineering Program at Cornell and a professor of industrial engineering at De La Salle University in Manilla, Philippines.

An industrial engineering expert, Prof. Sy received her Ph.D. in industrial and systems engineering from the National University of Singapore. She graduated with B.S. and M.S. degrees in industrial engineering from De La Salle University.

Prof. Sy’s research focuses on developing inventory management policies for closed-loop supply chains utilizing System Dynamics. While pursuing her doctorate, she pioneered target-oriented robust optimization, an algorithmic modeling framework enhancing decision-making amidst uncertainties. TORO’s application spanned various sectors, from industrial efficiency improvements to airline operations and wastewater treatment planning. With 47 Scopus-indexed publications and recognition as one of the Philippines’ top young scientists by the Philippine National Academy of Science and Technology, Prof. Sy has demonstrated a commitment to impactful research. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, her focus on pandemic response analysis further underscores her dedication to societal welfare.

Now seeking new challenges as an Ezra Systems Visiting Professor, she aims to advance TORO’s capabilities through integration with data science, paving the way for agile decision-making in dynamic environments.
