Ezra’s Round Table / Systems Seminar: Hong Chen (PJM)
Bio:
Through more than 25 years in the power industry, Dr. Hong Chen has practiced a variety of power system operation issues, ranging from state estimation, short-term load forecasting, transient stability and voltage stability, operation risk assessment and computational methods, all with peer reviewed publications and commercial utility applications.
Dr. Chen also has sound contributions in electricity market operation and design through benchmarking projects at RTO/ISO, such as Perfect Dispatch at PJM, security constrained unit commitment, energy and reserve market co-optimization, locational marginal price calculation and auditing, electricity market clearing engine design and implementation, etc.
In the last decade, with broad engagement in power grid control room operation, Dr. Chen has been exploring the theory and practices on operational risk mitigation to achieve equilibrium of energy market operations and chaired the IEEE Task Force on this subject.
Dr. Chen is a Senior Member of IEEE, past Chair of IEEE Power & Energy Society’s Power System Operations Committee, and founding Chair of Power System Operation, Planning and Economics Committee. She was an Editor of IEEE Transactions on Power Systems for the past seven years and IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid. Dr. Chen is an active volunteer in IEEE as author, reviewer, panelist and meeting organizer.
