Ezra’s Round Table / Systems Seminar: Michael Charles (Cornell BEE)
Bio:
A Diné / Navajo scientist currently starting up a laboratory at Cornell University as a Cornell Provost’s New Faculty Fellow, Postdoctoral Associate and Incoming Assistant Professor. Working in the Biological and Environmental Engineering (BEE) Department with an affiliation with the American Indian and Indigenous Studies Program (AIISP).
Research interests include bringing ecosystems into the design and decision-making of technological systems while exploring how to use academic research to impact social, political, and ethical issues. The lab is computationally-focused on sustainability with field work opportunities that provide community development through research and inter-cultural dialogue.
Other passions lie in working to increase the diversity and representation of minority groups in STEM education and climate politics, along with working with gifted and talented students through their pre-college education.
